UEIC 2008

With the success of the first conference that took place in 2007, the Islamic Society was up for the challenge to start preparations for the next Islamic Conference – A Journey into Islamic Values. This turned out to be yet another informative, dynamic, and intellectually stimulating event. Although, a different theme had been adopted, the rationale and philosophy behind the conference remained the same. The conference was held under the auspices of Islamic Awareness Week and strived to provide an informative as well as intellectual portal that disseminates the true meaning of Islam not only as a religion but as comprehensive way of life. The Islamic Society hopes to rid misconceptions and clear the air on issues that could have blinded societies on the understanding and appreciation of such a great religion.

The Islamic Society proved to be successful as the conference was an outstanding success with the international flavour not only clear from the diverse set of speakers but bolstered by support and attendance of representatives from several governments and international organisations. BBC Essex Radio was present and took views from Khola Hassan one of the speakers and a new Muslim who had recently embraced Islam.
The close of the evening was glowed with live nasheeds from the group Labbayk Nasheeds. This is a young nasheed group who are based in the East London, UK. The group started singing live performances in 2004 and have gained popularity around London. Labbayk do not use any musical instruments in their nasheeds. There lyrics and content are verified by recognised scholars. The group is currently working towards

releasing an album in the near future.
